Fort Wellington National Historic Site’s offering
This year, Fort Wellington National Historic Site will be offering enhanced guided heritage tours, historical re-enactor events and Canada Day programming.
National historic sites reflect the rich and varied heritage of Canada and provide an opportunity for Canadians to learn more about its diverse history.
At Fort Wellington National Historic Site, visitors can learn more about one of the best-preserved nineteenth-century fortifications in Canada, Fort Wellington, which presents the strategic importance of the St. Lawrence River prior, during, and after the War of 1812.
Visitors can also enjoy a guided heritage tour, attend a historic re-enactment, or experience special Canada Day programming.

The hours of operation
May 20 to June 30 and September 5 to October 9, Thursday to Monday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
July 1st to September 5, daily, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The quick facts
- In 2020, Parks Canada completed a $2.6 million rehabilitation of Fort Wellington National Historic Site defensive works. In 2022, the work completed by the construction company, BRC Group, was nominated, and won the 2022 Architectural Conservancy Ontario (ACO) Margaret and Nicholas Hill Cultural Heritage Landscape Award.

- Parks Canada administered places are a source of shared pride for all Canadians. - In celebration of diversity, Parks Canada continues to offer free admission to new Canadian citizens for one year through the Institute for Canadian Citizenship’s Canoo mobile app. Visiting Parks Canada’s national heritage places is a great way for Canadians to experience the outdoors and learn more about our environment and heritage.
